In Śiva Mahā Purāṇa, Umā Saṁhitā, Adhyāya 12 is written:

Tatra putrā bhavantyete pādapā nātra saṃśayaḥ |

param lokam gataḥ so'pi lokānāpnoti cākṣayān॥18॥

The planted trees are undoubtedly as one's sons

and after death one achieves the indestructible lokas.

Puṣpaiḥ suragaṇāṃsarvānphalaiścāpi tathā pitṛn ।

chāyayā cātithīnsarvāṃpūjayanti mahīruhāḥ॥

The trees adore the gods with their flowers,

the manes with their fruits, and the travellers with their shade.

Kinnaroragarakṣāṃsi devagandharvamānavāḥ ।

tathaivarṣigaṇāścaiva saṃśrayanti mahīruhān॥20॥

The Kinnaras, serpents, Raksasas, the gods, Gandharvas,

humans and the ascetics, all take shelter under the trees.

Puṣpitāḥ phalavantaśca tarpayantīha mānavān ।

iha loke pare caiva putrāste dharmataḥ smṛtāḥ॥21॥

The flowering trees satisfy the people in this as well as in the future world.

This is the reason that they are called as Dharmaputras.

Taḍāgakṛdvṛkṣaropī ceṣṭayajñaśca yo dvijaḥ: ।

ete svargānna hīyante ye cānye satyavādina:॥22॥

Those who dig wells, plant trees, perform the yagyas,

and adore the truthful Brahmanas, never fall from the heaven.
